Smaller gobies like clown gobies probably won't live that long, but it is not unreasonable to expect to get 3-5 years out of them with good care. Having the little guy or gal for a year is a good sign. Most fish that aren't going to make it will die off within the first 6-8 weeks I would say. This is of course not including accidents and predation that might occur. Figuring out how old the fish was when you purchased it would most likley just be a guess so I would expect you should have at least one more year with him/her if not more. If you look in the phone book, you should be able to find shops in your area that sell marine fish, you can normally buy tank bred clowns for about 10 to 15 pounds. I think you should ask for advise on what these type of fish require, as in tank size and water conditions before you make your mind up that it is what you want. Or google clown fish and find as much info as possible. Hope this helps.
