Humour or humor (see American and British English spelling differences) is the tendency of particular cognitive experiences to provoke laughter and provide amusement. Many theories exist about what humour is and what social function it serves. People of all ages and cultures respond to humour. The majority of people are able to be amused, to laugh or smile at something funny, and thus they are considered to have a "sense of humour." The term derives from the humoral medicine of the ancient Greeks, which stated that a mix of fluids known as humours (Greek: χυμός, chymos, literally juice or sap; metaphorically, flavour) controlled human health and emotion. (This theory has since been found to be counterfactual.) A sense of humour is the ability to experience humour, although the extent to which an individual will find something humorous depends on a host of variables, including geographical location, culture, maturity, level of education, intelligence, and context. For example, young children may possibly favour slapstick, such as Punch and Judy puppet shows or cartoons (e.g., Tom and Jerry). Satire may rely more on understanding the target of the humour, and thus tends to appeal to more mature audiences. Nonsatirical humour can be specifically termed "recreational drollery." Smiling can imply a sense of humour and a state of amusement, as in this painting by Eduard von Grützner. From Wikipedia under the

Please help me! A big thanks to those who answer this! Asked by coolcolouredcat - Mon Apr 13 17:02:56 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Ever hear the saying,"laughter is the best medicine"? That's why humor is a very significant characteristic :) Spreading smiles to reduce tears, type of thing. When you have a sense of humor and can easily laugh, or make others laugh easily, it's very comforting for both parties. Laughing can be a release like crying - both are actually very theraputic. Hope this helps - Good luck :) Answered by I laugh, I smile; I take Prozac - Mon Apr 13 17:09:47 2009 What is the relationship between humor sorrow and truth and fiction? Q. Ok so mark twain has written " the secret source of humor is not joy but sorrow" so what i just wanted to ask is what exactly do you think he means and what is the relationship between humor sorrow and what is the relationship between truth and fiction Asked by Ace - Sat Feb 21 23:35:43 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. When you are a writer, if you want to make your stories funny, you must have suffered through sorrow. This is how Harry Potter has its laugh-out-loud moments. Fiction is a way to convey truth about human nature, and is much more full of truth than history books. History is FACTS, not TRUTH. Therefore, the phrase, "Truth is stranger than fiction," makes no sense taken at face value. Answered by The Pencil - Sat Feb 21 23:42:57 2009 How do I include humor into a rock song?
Q. I like Tenacious D's approach to humor, but I think I'd get shot if I tried to write like that. Can somebody give me some friendly advice please? I'm a big rock fan, and that's how I try to write. The theatrical genre can be simply described as a dramatic performance pitting two societies against each other in an amusing agon or conflict. Comedy contains variations on the elements of surprise, incongruity, conflict, repetitiveness, and the effect of opposite expectations, and there are many recognized genres. Sourced
