The word "perception" comes from the Latin words perceptio, percipio, and means "receiving, collecting, action of taking possession, apprehension with the mind or senses." Perception is one of the oldest fields in psychology. The oldest quantitative law in psychology is the Weber-Fechner law, which quantifies the relationship between the intensity of physical stimuli and their perceptual effects. The study of perception gave rise to the Gestalt school of psychology, with its emphasis on holistic approach. What one perceives is a result of interplays between past experiences, including one’s culture, and the interpretation of the perceived. If the percept does not have support in any of these perceptual bases it is unlikely to rise above perceptual threshold. From Wikipedia under the

Aren't memory, perception and intuition (pre)processed/coloured by the same unconscious processes before we get aware of it? Asked by one world one life and one love - Sat Jan 24 10:35:08 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. Philosophers, by the very etymology of the word, necessarily refer to those who deal with concrete reasoning. Logic is the tool of their trade. Intuition, though may be claimed by many as visionary, the same won't be founded in axioms and postulates of the logical system of thinking. Prophetic messages belong to the ears of the believers, and not to acutely critical minds of the academic community. Knowledge to them meant the verifiable facts classified and proven by systematic methods. While intuition, on the other hand, is mostly founded on beliefs, and can't stand syllogistic argumentation. I really need help with this...So please could somebody help me with this question... What is wrong with the idea that human visual perception is achieved by a single area of the brain that simply reflects the visual information coming from the eyes? Make sure that you discuss different sources of evidence this idea- OR What is wrong with the idea that there is a single brain area responsible for visual perception and that all that this area might do is directly interpret the visual information? Asked by Shysta M - Sun Nov 23 14:59:09 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. 1) The Thalamus : information from the eyes is processed by the thalamus. 2) Next the Visual Cortex of the Occipital Lobe receives that information from the thalamus, and further decodes it so that an image is created. 3) The Angular Gyrus is another area of the Occipital Lobe that transforms visual information into the spoken word. You now have three areas to research. Answered by PSYCHOLOGIST (J E B [Glos]). - Mon Nov 24 10:52:13 2008 Do you think the public perception of robots is positive or negative?
Q. The technology for all sorts of robots is rapidly advancing, do you think public perception will help or hinder this? Asked by jw - Sun Nov 26 18:23:18 2006 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. Negative - there's still a lot of the "Frankenstein complex" to get over. Issac Asimov's Three Laws are a start...but the REAL "I, Robot" (NOTHING to do with the movie - but DON'T get me started there) indicated that even WITH them, there would still be problems...
