The performing arts are those forms of art which differ from the plastic arts insofar as the former uses the artist's own body, face, and presence as a medium, and the latter uses materials such as clay, metal or paint which can be molded or transformed to create some physical art object. The term "performing arts" first appeared in the English language in the year 1711.

A. You could visit schools and speak to children. A group of performing arts students could do a five minute comedy or educational sketch on a topic relevant to school life like bullying to entertain children and show them what you do. It is always a good idea to lead by example.

Who here has begun performing arts classes around the age of 16?
Q. I've taken a few acting classes and some piano and voice but not consistently. I want to learn with a local performing arts academy. I don't know if I should convince my parents (or myself) that I should do this. A lot of my new friends that i've made go there, but they have been with the academy for a good number of years. I don't know if it's worth it. By the way, I plan on taking voice, acting, and musical theatre classes. I will also begin dance at another studio.

A. I personally haven't (haven't reached that age yet) but at my acting academy many of the most talented performers there joined 16 and older. It's really helped them a lot, and they love it.

What kinda of degree is required to open a Performing Arts Studio?
Q. Hi there! I know there's no requirement of a degree when opening a business, however, i was wondering if anyone knew any "concentrated" fields that i could possibly consider. I'd like to open a Performing Arts Studio and possibly later collaborate with an Entertainment Agency(ies). If you would happen to know, i'd really appreciate your guidance! Thanks!!! Take care. =]

A. Most people with those businessses who are successful have themselves been successful in the performing arts and have retired or cut back and branched out. Also, the teachers associated with successful businesses have had success in the performing arts. To begin a business in performing arts without the cachet of success is almost a guarantee to fail. Beyond success in performing, it would, of course, be very helpful to learn about business forms, management, accounting, insurance, etc. Even it you hire a business manager you should know enough to supervise the business end!
